Mead is often referred to as the Nectar of the Gods, or the Drink of Love, it is an alcoholic beverage that is produced by fermenting a solution of honey and water.
It is a delicious honey wine that has been made and enjoyed for centuries. Some believe it is the world's oldest alcoholic drink.
There are several producers of mead in New Zealand. While some fruit wine producers also produce mead as part of their range, there are also companies that specialise, producing only mead and/or mead liqueurs.
Wine styles range from light and dry to dark, rich, sweet mead, akin to dessert wine. The latter is typical of the mead style of old England and Europe.
